Alberta

Alberta is made up of mountains and rolling ranchland, real cowboy country! If you are visiting in the summer, you won’t want to miss the Calgary Stampede where you can see dare-devil cowboys in action and sample some of the finest BBQ beef you have ever tasted. Alberta is home to most of Canada’s beef cattle. Other local specialties are bison smoked over sweet grass and Bow Valley trout.

Mount Assiniboine

While in Alberta, you may also want to visit the dinosaur park and hike up a few mountains. Skiing is fabulous in the winter and adventurous souls may want to try mountain biking in the summer.

Banff National Park, a short drive from Calgary, is Canada’s oldest and most spectacular heritage park. The town of Banff which is located in the park offers many restaurants. You definitely should check out the upper hot springs and even if you can’t afford to stay in the Banff Springs Hotel, this luxurious hotel is well worth a visit.
